The Theoretical Foundation section of a research study is often one of the most challenging components to create. It is informed by the historical context as described in the Background to the Problem section. In this assignment, you will connect the Background to the Problem with theories, models, and concepts to develop the Theoretical Foundation for your research study.
General Requirements:
Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:
Refer to the Background to the Problem that you submitted as your response to the first discussion question in Topic 5.
Instructors will be using a grading rubric to grade the assignments. It is recommended that learners review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment in order to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment.
Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.
Directions:
Locate the Background to the Problem that you submitted as your response to the first discussion question in Topic 5.
Write a draft (750-1,000 words) of the Theoretical Foundation (a theory, model, law, or concept underpinning the study) for your research study. The draft should include the following:
The study's problem statement resulting from the defined need or gap. This can be taken from the Background to the Problem section that you drafted earlier.
A definition and description of each of the theories, models, laws, or concepts that will be the basis for the Theoretical Foundation of the study. Support these ideas with seminal sources.
The phenomena and research questions (qualitative studies) or the variables and hypotheses (quantitative studies) for the study.
A discussion of how the theory, model, law, or concept undergirds and connects to the research study.
My theoretical foundation is that telehealth services offer an enhanced solution to stemming the spread of Covid-19.

Part of the Background to the Problem section of Chapter 2 highlights the historic context of the problem under study. Discuss the problem for your dissertation study. What are the key elements that provide the historic context to the study? How does the research literature create or support that historic context?

The supported findings to use telehealth in remote patient monitoring to broader access of quality care. First, telehealth systems need to adopt user-friendly features to encourage providers and clinics to use these types of services to embrace the technology. An elaborate system in the past has made it difficult to implement usage and discouraged investors, providers, and technical support to implement the services. Second, telehealth boosted health outcomes, there are many options to telehealth which do not require a video conferencing. Telehealth is a flexible and evidence-based method for clinical service delivery known to reduce treatment barriers, increase access to care, yield outcomes comparable to those for in-person interventions, and promote treatment attendance and high patient satisfaction (Glynn, Chen, Dawson, Gelman, & Zeliadt, 2020). Partial options were suggested to use the regular phone service to suppress an option of telehealth on top of the high technology available. Findings from the articles showed that the integration of telehealth interventions were positively related to an increase in patient satisfaction, direct health care if needed and saved the time an effort if basic needs were only required. Many patients' expectations were met when telehealth was used. Third, the studies revealed that a strong management structure was vital in building a successful telehealth model

With a global pandemic placed in many of these scenarios telehealth systems that had more robust management saw better levels of co-operation and co-ordination between the various units. Preventative care was given a whole new meaning and telehealth forced its way into the limelight as one of the major key components to patient and provider safety. Benefits of telehealth included increased patient access to pain services, convenience, reduced travel costs, greater accessibility, increased safety, and coordinated care (Bjørkquist, Forss, & Samuelsen, 2019).

Ideally, telehealth has been found to be essential in promoting patients’ access to quality care. It is crucial to comprehend that access to healthcare may be challenging for people who live far from healthcare facilities. However, with the adoption of proper and effective telecommunication technologies, it is possible for patients and healthcare providers to eliminate the distance barrier that can have a significant impact on the care provided to the patient. Ideally, telehealth involves the use of digital information and other communication technologies that may include mobile devices and computers that makes it possible for patients to access essential healthcare services remotely without physically visiting their doctors and other healthcare professionals. It is critical to comprehend that telehealth is regarded as a flexible, evidence-based approach in healthcare delivery that has the potential to minimize treatment barriers and reduce the obstacles that would difficult for patients to receive the required care. It has been established that telehealth increases treatment attendance and also promotes patients’ satisfaction (Glynn et al., 2020). The integration of telehealth interventions in healthcare services has been linked with better and timely healthcare services, which promotes better outcomes and increases satisfaction. Additionally, telehealth has been critical in controlling and managing the Covid-19 global pandemic that has affected every country across the world. The use of telecommunication has promoted co-operation and co-ordination among all basic units. Besides, telehealth has made it possible to improve patient safety, facilitate coordinated care, and reduce travel costs.
Rogers’ Innovation Diffusion Theory
This theory is essential in determining how telehealth may be adopted in the healthcare sector, and it can also determine how information technologies innovations spread among different stakeholders in the healthcare setting, including among the healthcare providers and the patients. This theory examines innovations as ideas and technologies that are unfamiliar to people in a given environment. Rogers asserted that various factors determine the success of the innovations; these may include the communication channels adapted, the features of the innovation, traits of adopters, and the general social system (Zhang, Yu, Yan & Spil, 2015). For telehealth systems to remain effective in the healthcare setting, then they should promote various user-perceived qualities that include complexity, level of compatibility with existing systems, and relative advantage, which determines the benefits the user gains after adopting the innovation. The success of telehealth services in managing Covid-19 is dependent on various issues, such as the degree to which the technologies integrate with the values of both patients and healthcare providers. Additionally, the adoption of telehealth in managing and controlling the pandemic may be determined by various factors, such as the extent to which telecommunication technologies are considered complex and the benefits they provide to both patients and healthcare providers.
