Personal qualities and attributes are essential to achieving success in the nursing industry. An exemplary nurse must have empathy, integrity, and knowledge of the healthcare field. These qualities and attributes are critical in ensuring that their roles and responsibilities are carried out correctly while ensuring that the patient’s health needs are met and that they work in harmony with their colleagues. Hence, if a nurse possesses these qualities and characteristics, the nurse is more likely to succeed.
Nurses, in particular, must be able to empathize with patients. They must demonstrate that they understand the patient’s condition and are willing to assist them. In this manner, nurses can establish a positive relationship with their patients, allowing them to gain their patients' trust. When nurses gain their patients’ trust, they can help them emotionally and physically. Patients who feel safe around their nurses entrust their health to them, allowing them to recover quickly. Thus, nurses must have empathy.
Nurses should also have integrity. Nurses with integrity can act morally and responsibly. Nurses must be honest, especially with their patients. They must be open about their patients’ correct health status to gain trust. And as previously stated, gaining the patient’s trust has several advantages. Nurses must also show their colleagues their integrity. It is essential to work in an environment where everyone has integrity.
Finally, nurses must be knowledgeable. Nurses must be aware of new trends in the healthcare industry in today's technologically advanced world. They must be able to operate new hospital machines and devices. Furthermore, nurses must be knowledgeable in a variety of tasks. A knowledgeable nurse is also a competent nurse.
Other qualities and attributes may be required for a nurse to succeed. However, these three qualities are vital and will serve as the foundation for all qualities and attributes a nurse must possess.
