Statement of Purpose to Harvard Graduate School of Education

Admission Essay Instructions:

Hi John - I need some help with a Statement of Purpose, some kind of admission letter for a Masters Course (No Plagiarism)
0. I needed help to write a good quality Statement of Purpose (or they called it an admission letter) to this Master's in Educational Leadership in Harvard Graduate School or HGSE for the Fall 2022 intake. This is a leadership course in education, but i need to tie this course to further achieve my career goals in corporate companies. (You may want to read more about this course here https://www(dot)gse(dot)harvard(dot)edu/masters/online-program - Higher education pathway).
1. How to write: Master of Education (Ed.M.) applicants guidelines from the website - help me write around 1370 words if possible.
-As a reminder, competitive candidates need not have prior direct experience in an education setting though should have a clear conception of why they’re pursuing a master’s degree in education. In addition, “education” and “education-related” are broadly defined at HGSE and encompass all fields, roles, and contexts covered by the Ed.M. Programs and Concentrations we offer.
- Your background: What key experiences have contributed to your commitment to work in the field of education or with education-related issues?
- Your objectives for graduate study: What are your academic and professional goals and what knowledge, skills, and tools are you hoping to develop through enrollment in a graduate program?
- Why HGSE, and why this specific Program (and Concentration, if relevant): why is enrollment at HGSE, and in this master’s Program and Concentration specifically, critical in helping you achieve your goals?
2. Please look at a sample of a statement of purpose (attached and please Enlarge the size, i have included some of my of my points in red fonts) written by a student who have successfully admitted to the one of the public policy course in HGSE. I have written in red, on how he wrote that letter. Please help me to craft a statement of purpose similar to that, in term of head body and tail of that essay.
3. Please refer to my background in #00114510 - that was the previous personal statement for another school you wrote for me.
4. Some background: I have previously studied Bachelors of Science in Information Technology, and a PhD in Cognitive Science in London.
5. I was a part time tutor for undergraduate and postgraduate students back then.
6. Now, i am a full time staff working in corporate companies. I worked in Telecommunication, E-Commerce, some startup companies and also in banks.
7. I heads up the digital transformation in HSBC now, looking at affluent customers (require a lot of strategies). My direct reports do not know much about digital marketing, so rather than just crafting strategies and planning, i have to spend time guiding them about digital marketing skills (e.g. running digital ads, how to effectively bid on an add, looking at digital channels from customers view, how to do budgeting and budget allocation on different channels, etc)
8. Keypoints of why i wanted to study masters and my main goals (kindly see the points below).
9. As I work in corporate firms, i noticed i have insufficient programming skills to be part of some roles important roles relevant to digital and data scientist. As part of my career advancement, i have decided to increase my knowledge in programming - this is why i applied for a Master's degree in Harvard Extension School last year. My focus is on my skill in computer science, courses which i do not have any opportunities to study when i did the bachelor's degree. Some programming languages include PHP, JavaScript, Java, C++ etc. My current GPA is 4.0 (please mention the dateline to complete the Harvard Extension School's masters degree is 2026, so if i were to be admitted and choose to enroll to the Masters in Education Leadership in HGSE, i will apply leave of absence.
10. Similar to the example given, you can include a short paragraph that I have completed an Executive education course in Leading Economic Growth in Harvard Kennedy School taught by Professor Ricardo Hausmann and Professor Matthew Andrews in 2020. In this course, I have learned various growth strategies to tackle the economic development of a country. How this course is tie to corporate leadership?
Every great leader is a great teacher, and the greatest leaders seize every opportunity to teach well - Albert Mohler
Becoming a education leader in the coporate world
1. Using knowledge, experience and understanding to elevate the performance of those they supervise, is key to their professional and corporate success.
2. When leaders take time to have a one-on-one session with their direct reports, everyone benefits. However, one-on-one sessions might not be the best practice since it consume a lot of time. Then what would be the best practice?
3. When leaders are teachers, they tend to be better listeners. While building relationships with employees during teachable moments, leaders are in a much better position to hear individual ideas and comments (some leaders are great listeners). They are also more likely to learn about employee concerns and needs.
Important teaching skills for corporate leaders
4. There are no difference whether you are a teacher in the classroom, the conference room or in a meeting room, good teaching skills are both timeless and universal. As you work with either individuals or teams to help them grow and become increasingly informed and independent, these educational approaches are key:
- Embrace diverse learning styles: A great educator embrace personalization, tailoring lessons and support to match students. Great business leaders do something similar. Although it may be more efficient to bring in a highly-trained corporate trainer for all-company rollouts or new-employee fundamentals, nothing compares to leaders who get to know each person they influence and mentor.
- Ask questions: Strong teaching leaders do not simply lecture about what they believe is most important. They ask questions and determine what their protégé already knows.
- Create "teachable moments": Leaders who succeed as teachers do not wait for the perfect teaching opportunity. They find pockets of times, like at a casual lunch or on the manufacturing floor, to address pertinent issues, questions and new ideas.
- Model: At times, no direct instruction is required at all. By simply doing the right thing or practicing what the expected behavior looks like, the corporate manager can teach by example. This can be a powerful teaching tool, especially when the mentor and protégé are working together in the field, in front of clients or customers or in a large group setting.
Becoming a powerful teaching leader
1. Corporate leaders develop and hone effective teaching skills are prepared, to educate their employees to "become designers and members of organizations that encourage organizational learning."
2. Employees will learn how "to restructure and create empowering environments in their organizations." This course is extremely ideal that would help me advancing my professional capacities to formulate innovative solutions in corporate settings.
3. Traditionally, leaders hoarded information for power. However, in the world today, The most effective corporate leaders find frequent opportunities to share both information and knowledge to improve the skills of their employees., helping them become more valuable to the company and more satisfied in their jobs. However, that leader has to do it in the correct way.
There is an article from Harvard Business School, saying the best leaders are great teachers when it comes to managing employees - https://hbr(dot)org/2018/01/the-best-leaders-are-great-teachers
Ending - i wanted to learn to change the world in a better way with the knowledge acquired from the university.

Nelson Mandela once said that "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world." It is education that can change ourselves, and Accordingly, Harvard's Online Masters in Education Leadership aims to create a transformative and equitable leader in the field of education, which is what I genuinely believe in. Ever since I was in college, I have believed that education should not only be effective and inclusive, rather it must also be accessible, equitable, and capable of delivering practical applications to improve our living conditions. In line with this, my goal in becoming an educator is to be a transformative, proactive, and research-based educator for my students. I would like to achieve these goals to improve the quality of education but even to help advocate for a more inclusive and accessible educational system. In the future, I want to make sure that my future students would have the opportunity to test the theories that they learn and apply them in the real world, regardless of their race, class, gender, or belief. In line with this, it is also my belief that Harvard's Online Masters in Education Leadership Program is the best course to provide me with the skillset to research, innovate, and advocate for the betterment of the educational system.
Coming from humble beginnings, I always believed that education is the key to success. Ever since I was a child, my parents never failed to tell me about the importance of striving for new knowledge. Thus, despite our limited resources, I strived hard and balanced my life, work, and academics to provide for myself and my family.
Nevertheless, one thing that bothered me was the discrepancy between inaccessibility and equity in education. Despite the progress that our nation made throughout history, studies show that the number of White and Black children enrolled in public were 51% and 14%, respectively, which suggests a discrepancy in access to education CITATION deB19 \l 1033 (de Brey, et al., 2019). This was one of my main concerns when I started taking up my Bachelor's of Science in Information Technology. During those times, we worked on a project that collated data from various universities in the State of Texas, which led me to conclude that a significant disparity in educational opportunities for students in the United States still exists.
After graduating, I then worked in the fields of digital marketing and technology. I worked as a project manager for various companies from various industries like telecommunications and eCommerce, where I learned to increase customer acquisition and profitability. During my experience working for companies, I realized that these fields act as a double-edged sword depending on how it is used. On the one hand, I realized that digital technologies can be used to increase access to education. It helps empower those individuals to improve their skills and improve their credibility with online courses that provide an alternative to traditional schooling. On the other hand, however, this also creates a disparity between those who have a better internet connection and those who don't, those who have funds to pursue "full co...
