Name Course Code Due Date In the CONTEXT of the GIVEN STUDY, explain why it is important to use social science research methods to find out more about employees’ perspectives towards community-based delivery of mental health literacy programs, rather than non-research methods such as hearsay. (REFER TO LECTURE ONE, 2024) 1 Social science research relies on a systemic inquiry into the problem. A systematic inquiry to the problem allows the researcher to collect, analyze and interpret data objectively rather than subjectively. The structured method of scientific research ensures that the research is well organized, rigorous and leads to reliable findings. Non- research approaches like hearsay may lead to subjective findings. 2 Secondly, a scientific research processes allows collection of empirical evidence for the problem. The evidence is based on observations, experimentation and or other data collection methods. This evidence is key in validating or denying underlying assumptions about the subject. Non-research methods are less reliable as a valid source of information that is verifiable and reliable. 3 Social science research complements existing literature which provides the researcher with foundation to understand the problem at hand. This process compliments existing research into the subject matter and gives the researcher a head-start in understanding the problem at hand. Hearsay and other non-research methods are not pegged in existing literature and hence may be inconsistent with existing body of knowledge on the subject matter. 4 Research method following a structured process is generalizable into a broader population. In the case of the research article used in this assignment, the researcher included this attribute as one of the key limitations for the study because it relied on 29 respondents which is not easily transferable to the rest of the population of all white-collar jobs in Australia.
