The Structure of Verizon
Verizon’s corporate structure is operations-based divisional. This is likely to be the structure of the company because of its restructuring to facilitate business expansion. The new organizational structure will enable the firm to implement new operations from new opportunities with ease (Gregory, 2018). Therefore, the company is using the operations-based divisional structure to utilize opportunities in the ICT and services industry, especially in America. This structure can also support Verizon’s managerial needs and other operations in the modern telecommunications market. The organizational structure of Verizon is defined by three features: Operations-based divisions, geographical segments, and the corporate hierarchy.
The first element is the Division of Department. The company uses operational divisions and geographical segments to expand operations. New divisions are created based on the kind of operation. Secondly, there is work specialization but at a low level (Gregory, 2018). For instance, the Media and Telematics division focuses on digital media and telematics while the Network and Technology division concentrates on developing technologies and networks (fiber optics).
Thirdly, Verizon has a chain of command. For instance, the executive takes care of Verizon’s information and technology architecture. The structure enabled interactions among work units and employees (Org.Chart, 2018). Fourth, Verizon enjoys a span of control. For example, corporate managers are enabled by the hierarchy to address Verizon’s strategic concerns and there are seamless management, growth, and expansion of operations (Gregory, 2018). Finally, formalization at Verizon is ensured as the main functional areas are under senior managers who guide the rest of the staff.
