How Did You Decide to Pursue a Career as Communication Professional?
View the TedEd video(https://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=1aVGf4G72IA), and review how you described your communication professional identity in the discussion board.
Then answer the questions below, keeping in mind that these responses may differ from your answers relative to your other roles in your life (e.g., as a daughter/son, friend, volunteer, citizen, or other kinds of professional). Ensure these particular answers focus on your role as a communication professional. In your journal entry, show each question followed by your answer. For Week 01 only, I have provided space limits to give you a sense of how to limit your entries throughout this semester.
1. How did you decide to pursue a career as a communication professional? Tell your story in 1 paragraph.
2. What are your 3 most important career goals as a communication professional for the next five years? List them as 3 bulleted statements. (In the future I would like to work on social media marketing)
3. What are your 3 most important personal values as a communication professional? From where did they come? List them as bulleted statements.
4. How well do you stand up for your values in the workplace? For what reasons? Explain yourself in 1 paragraph.
5. In the TedEd video, Damon Horowitz suggests that professionals reflect. Recall the biggest moral dilemma that you have ever faced and for which you lacked the moral courage to say anything to anyone. It must have occurred (a) in the workplace, or (b) if you have never been employed, at school. It does not necessarily have to relate to a communication project in an organization. What was the challenge? For what reasons did you say nothing? Limit your response to 1 paragraph.

How did you decide to pursue a career as a communication professional? Tell your story in 1 paragraph.
Well, I think I saw something on television, and it was interesting how a character was able to sell a company’s image beyond what was deemed possible. I do not remember the name of the movie. Still, I remember that the movie revolved around how this particular character could communicate his way out of any situation. At some point, he got himself involved in something illegal, and he was eventually detained. However, he made me want to develop the ability to communicate as he did. He made me want to develop that confidence, suave approach to conversations, and demeanor that attracted much attention. Furthermore, I have seen the growth of the Communications field and how it is projected to grow even further in the future. I want to be a part of the group that continues the revolution of changing the world’s mindset against focusing entirely on Math and Sciences.
What are your 3 most important career goals as a communication professional for the next five years? List them as 3 bulleted statements.
* I would like to build my own social media following. I want to be in social media marketing. Therefore, I know I must have a following for this to work.
* I would like to have learned and mastered how to use social media marketing analytics. Further, I would like to have learned what I need to do to attract more followers and reactions to the content I post.
* I would like to have built an online portfolio that showcases my work. In five years, I would not want to be working for anyone. Therefore, my portfolio should be available for anyone who wishes to hire me on a consultancy basis.
