Mr. Juan Duran is a 50 years old Mexican American veteran who is visiting the diabetes clinic at the VA for the provision of nursing care for his condition. He is a navy veteran and appears disoriented as he is found wandering the hallways by the facility’s medical director. He is under instructions to start insulin injections for his diabetic condition but admits to not knowing how to proceed with the insulin regimen. The care provider gives him an appointment to be given instructions on how to carry out the insulin injection but has no recollection of the same. The medical director places him on unscheduled nursing education in the clinic upon which the nurse, Jenny, highlights the patient’s family and social background for consideration in the delivery of quality patient care.
Evaluation of the Case Study using Neuman’s Theory
According to Neuman’s theory, Mr. Juan Duran’s case can be broken down into five categories for evaluation and assessment of different elements affecting or influencing the achievement of desired outcomes through the delivery of effective nursing care on patients. Mr. Juan’s disorientation witnessed at the clinic’s hallways, coupled with his loss of memory, as highlighted in the case study, indicates the presence of a psychological problem.
