Beyond Bullying Case Analysis
The article Beyond Bullying was co-authored by Jen Gilbert, Laura Mamo, Jessica Fields and Nancy Lesko. The article identifies that; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) families, teachers and students experience physical and mental harassment in their environment. Through the beyond bullying project, the authors identified the difficulties in getting beyond bullying stories of hope and discomfort. Any attempt of acquisition of knowledge about LGBT sexuality has become institutionalized in schools that result in fear of being labeled and harassment to LGBTQ students (Fields et al. 6).
The article identified that fables about LGBTQ sexuality circulate outside the official discourses of school programs, curriculum and policies. In this perspective, by allowing conversations about the LGBTQ sexuality beyond bullying creates other pedagogical spaces that mounted the intimate possibilities in schools (Fields et al. 8).
