Schizophrenia is a compound disorder that has been associated with causing dysfunction in varied circuits and neurotransmitter systems. Research pieces have indicated that several biochemical changes in Schizophrenia have resulted in a dysfunction of neurotransmitter systems, with the most affected ones being dopamine, glutamate, serotonin, and γ‎-aminobutyric acid (GABA) (Factor et al., 2017). Besides, research has established that patients with Schizophrenia have lower dopamine quantities in their frontal cortex. Additionally, such patients with Schizophrenia have a deficiency in dopamine levels in most of their brain regions. On the other hand, patients with bipolar disorders also experience neurotransmitter dysfunction. Mostly, Norepinephrine and serotonin disorders in patients have been consistently linked to bipolar disorders.
