APRNs' board of nursing regulations in Arkansas and Colorado on prescriptive authority and practice authority differ as there is more emphasis on full practice in Colorado than reduced practice in Arkansas. ACA § 17-87- 310(a)(2) focuses on prescriptive authority among APRNs in Arkansas, where there is no full independent prescribing as there is an emphasis on collaborative practice with physician practice (Arkansas General Assembly, 2021). In Colorado, there is a full prescriptive authority among APRNs as they can prescribe independently.

An Arkansas APRN requires a certificate of prescriptive authority from the state board of nursing where there is a collaborative practice agreement with licensed physicians in Arkansas. However, there have been proposed changes to ensure full prescriptive authority without supervision where nurses may prescribe medicines, drugs, or therapeutic devices. Instead, nurses will be authorized for full practice if they meet certain requirements and are authorized by the Full Independent Practice Credentialing Committee (Arkansas General Assembly).
