The Effectiveness of Using Med-O-Wheel Smart in Improving Treatment Adherence

Introduction
Psychiatrists experience a big challenge when it comes to ensuring that their clients adhere to the use of the prescribed medication over a long period. Several overlapping factors related to the client, environment, treatment and physicians leads to partial or total non-adherence to medication. As a result, there are several incidences of relapse, functional impairment persistence symptoms and increased hospitalization. Non-adherence among schizophrenic patients is increased more as a result of their mental status (Olivares et al, 2013). The use of Med-O-Wheel smart is paramount in raising the level of adherence to treatment among these clients.
The Med-O-Wheel dispenser operates through reminding the client and monitoring the use of the medication. The Med-O-Wheel is connected to as smart device that serves as an electronic medication package. The garget is set in a way that it reminds the client by signaling through long beeps when it is time for taking the medication. When a dose is not taken at the right time, the garget automatically skips the dose in question and the dispenser switches to the next dose. Consequently the garget is very effective when it comes to prevention of medication misuse (Oy, 2008).
