Art can be defined as the application of creative skill and imaginations to produce a fine finish. Art may involve visual arts production, paintings, sculptures, plastic arts, applied arts, photography and drawing. Art is a very strong tool used in communication. It keeps generations alive and awakens memories; it is a reflection of our personal values for example a person who loves TV may regard a museum as boring. This is because different art pieces pass different information and meaning to both the artist and the audience.
Art has gone through various stages to date. However it is hard to define various art stages and therefore to fully understand art, genres in relation to times can help us understand todays’ art. Artworks from roughly 1907-present day are so wide ranging, it is impossible to pinpoint how the art genres exactly relate to one another .These genres are defined with different characteristics and artists who put art to a mark.
In this century, cubism that shattered the monotheistic renaissance approach on how art and the word were related was explored. It acted as a catalyst new movement of art which evolved in a new way art was seen. New works such as neo-plastics, conceptualism, surrealism and various real styles like social realism have been invented. Artists gained freedom from this point and art became indefinable. Here the new orientation in America encouraged art to be more commercial and loosed its link with the tradition .This was a trend furthered by introduction of new breeds of artists who did numerous styles which made a mark.
Francis Bacon is among international figures in the 20th century art that made mass audience from painting. He was an Irish-born British figurative painter born 28th October1992. His work was characterized by bold, graphic and emotional raw imagery. His work was driven by social factors and the market drift. He began painting in his early 20s and by mid 30s he shifted and earned a living in interior decoration and designer of furniture. His work was in most cases based on his interests and his social life. He focused on single subjects for a specific period.
