Introduction
In the work place, motivation is a crucial aspect which if well articulated it can lead to efficient of the organization’s goals. This follows the energizing aspect of motivation which gives the employees zeal to perform better and be more productive in their operations. In the recent times, there have been increased efforts of motivating employees in the enterprises that have realized the great extends that this aspect can go in increasing the productivity of workers. Some organizations have adopted what some people may regard as weird motivational activities. This paper analyses the depths of the motivational activities and their comparison to the McGregor’s theory X and theory Y. There has also been analysis of those motivational activities in view of Maslow needs theory.
The motivational activities
In the modern times, there has been adoption of sensitive modes of motivation to employees following the realization of the importance of this crucial aspect in the performance of the workers. This is also oriented to the overall performance of the business. For instance there has been allowance of battles such as Nert gun in offices in a bid to ensure motivation of the workers. Dance parties have also been held in offices as well as allowance of riding scooters in the office. Arend (2014) clarifies that; all these may sound weird, but the impact they have on the motivation of workers is great.
Those motivational strategies match Macgregor’s theory X. This theory stipulates that human beings need to be pushed to work. They naturally do not like to work and therefore, efforts have to be put in place to ensure that they do not turn completely against what they are expected to do. It is in regard of this theory, that the management of organizations realizes that, without the motivational incentives, the employees will not deliver as expected. They therefore go to great extents to ensure that the workers are motivated so that they can deliver. The extreme motivational incentives such the health insurance for the pets of employees match the theory X of Macgregor in the sense that, this theory stipulate that employees are bound to show little ambition for work when there are no motivational incentives. It is in realization of this that the management of the companies, seek to have the motivation of employees through those different incentives.
The motivational incentives are oriented to the realization of low motivation in employees especially where promotions are not frequently possible. Again, there is much need of those motivations in workplaces whereby, the employees perform repetitive jobs. Arend (2014) notes that; in such circumstances, there is bound to be low motivation of the workers. In matching the Macgregor’s theory X, the management of the organizations in which there is performance of repetitive tasks, seek to offer the motivational incentives such as dance parties in the office or the permission to ride scooters, so as to ensure that the workers are always motivated.
