Research-based practices refer to the information used in deciding about patient care is based on sound research, not just opinions from people. In their daily routines, nurses and generally the entire medical personnel team usually come across instances that call upon them to utilize scientifically proven methods. Research-based practices are also known as evidence-based practices. In such instances therefore, nurses are called upon to embrace and utilize research-based practices. With the rapid advancement in technology, it has become even more important to have a scenario whereby there is the combination of these technologies and skills.
Evidence-based data has over time been collected from the patients so as to come up with databases that can help predict on the same. To this end however, there is need to ensure that there is data privacy of the patients information. Patient confidentiality is therefore very important in the process of collection and application of evidence-based nursing. Nurses in various settings are adopting research-based practices that incorporate research findings into their decisions and interactions with their clients (Gaskin and Happell, 2014). In my workplace, we are also assimilating those practices. This is geared to ensure the best care and services are offered to our patients. Examples of these practices we have used include the ability to respond to changes, having information literacy, new methods of treatment, and many others.
