“The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting A Path to Achieve Health Equity” Report Recommends Lifelong Learning and Higher Education Levels.
Perhaps one of the most underrated jobs in the world today is nursing. Doctors often overshadow the nursing staff, and many need to remember that with nurses, doctors can tackle many of their surgical procedures efficiently. Modern healthcare has grown into a complex market, so the future nursing report recommended that by 2020, 80 percent of the nursing staff must hold a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) degree. There are more than just a few practices daily that nurses should be wary of; they are now expected to learn about healthcare policies, research, teamwork, collaboration, and system efficiency and demonstrate leadership skills.
Another factor is that the number of physicians retiring is much larger than the number of physicians replacing the retired ones. Such a shortage of primary care physicians contributes to the increasing need for higher levels of education for the nursing staff. Many policy changes must be implemented to allow nurses to replace previous physicians. Nurses must practice to their total capacity and education level, and the legal restrictions on their practice must be removed for this process to take place smoothly (Rekha, 2020).
My educational level right now is RN with an ADN degree while pursuing my BSN degree. I aim to achieve an MSN degree shortly to overcome all educational barriers in nursing and become a strong practitioner who can change lives, save lives, and genuinely contribute to the community’s welfare. As a registered nurse, I can work as a critical care nurse and monitor patients with injuries and life-threatening diseases. I am a calm individual, so such a job can suit me well, as the demand for critical care nurses has risen due to technological advances (Galan, 2022).
I can also work as an occupational health nurse or informatics nurse. That way, I can ensure employee safety in the workplace. I also have a keen interest in technology, so becoming informatics will combine technology and nursing knowledge for patient care.
I can also become a Family Nurse Practitioner focusing on women’s health and pediatrics. It is an excellent job because I can assist people of all ages and offer primary care to my patients. A similar opportunity is for a public health nurse. It allows a nurse to help promote healthy, disease-free practices. It will help me work with schools, public hospitals, clinics, and many non-profit organizations.
I want to attain an MSN degree as soon as possible because I understand that competitive nurses will soon enter the market, and I want to secure a safe place by beating my competition. Without an MSN degree, I will still lack all the essential skills that a nurse needs to assist matters of grave importance like healthcare policies, assisting critical patients, and knowing medical technology like the back of my hand. Healthcare is a vast field; hence, it is essential to accomplish these goals within the next seven years. The reason is simple; while practicing, I...
