The core function mainly addressed by the author is public health. The author provides a full understanding of various functions of law in safeguarding public’s health laws by creating conditions to help individuals lead healthier and safe lives. The countries’ public health duty includes taking measures and steps to provide the necessary services and interventions required to maintain the health of the public. For example, public health laws tries to demand particular behaviors from people to protect a society such as restricting smoking in public areas, requiring that all children be immunized according to the countries’ immunization program to prevent all children from preventable diseases such as measles (Gostin, 2008). Health care law involves judicial laws, legislative, and laws that control the health care field. It includes hospitals systems, private and public insurers, device and pharmaceutical manufacturers, and practitioners who treat patients in their clinics and dispensaries (Parmet, 2009).
All these departments operate within specific rules and regulations and they offer various courses to health care services such as drug and food law, medical malpractice, abuse and fraud, and healthcare acquisitions and mergers. Health law involves the intersection between health and law: from early stages of development of the human being, the role of the state in controlling child maltreatment, safety laws and occupational health to the rules governing elderly care and death.
