According to recommendation four, by the Institute of Medicine, (2010) there is need to increase the percentage of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020. This recommendation is designed to improve my skills and service to the rising population of patients. As a nurse, I am allowed to access defined academic pathways that would allow me to access higher education. The suggestion of offering tuition to these nursing is a venture that encourages me to get more skills. Currently, the schools of nursing charge high tuition fees for higher education. With the introduction of such reimbursements, it saves on costs and thus encouraging me to improve my skills. The expansion of loans and grants for nursing students is an immense boost in morale (Campbell & Daley, 2013). The recruitment and enhancement of skills in terms of increasing diversity is something that would enhance equality in the sector of nursing. Therefore, this recommendation affects me directly because I would love to further my skills and become a competitive nurse.
By 2020, the figure of nurses with a doctorate is anticipated to double. This recommendation challenges me to be among those with a doctorate by 2020. According to their recommendations, there is need to retain and recruit highly qualified academic and clinical nurse faculty. The benefit I accrue from such a team will aid in my competitiveness in the job market. A doctorate has always been something I have always dreamt of in my career. It will maintain my merit in the academic realm, and gives me a chance to further my education. By 2020, it seems apparent that many competitive nurses will be having a doctorate, and I want to be one of them.
