Most parents’ wish is that their children may learn to be responsible, hardworking, and most importantly, have good manners. As they try to teach their children how to be accountable, parents hope that the children will grow to know the value of hard work and helping others. Responsibility, hard work, and being religious are some essential qualities that most parents find imperative. Responsible children, in essence, are individuals who do something to the best of their ability and are accountable for each of their actions. According to LeBaron et al. (2018), parents wish that their children grow up to be people who keep their words and acknowledge their mistakes. Every parent's wish is that their child will be a contributing member of the family as well as society by being responsible citizens and good people.
Children's responsibility determines their success both in school and in the outside world that is at work and later with their own families. It is the wish of most parents that children follow up in their footsteps as people who own up their mistakes and take credit for their excellent deeds. Rather than just doing a task because of the parent's directives, children need to initiate doing an assignment when it is required. Doing this provides the child with a sense of pride and, consequently, a feeling of responsibility. Though parents would love to tell children exactly what they should do at a given time, their joy comes when children learn to do things their way hence learning from the consequences of their actions.
Cline and Fay (2020) posit that a parent is a great contributor in bringing up responsible children who will not shrug off their responsibilities later as citizens. Parents need to first think of responsibility as something that would positively impact their lives and of those around them. Parents should help their children to start seeing themselves as individuals who can respond to things without being coerced.
