Autoethnography: Developing A Writing Process

Essay Instructions:

For this assignment, you will examine yourself and your own writing processes and write an autoethnography in which you describe them. Your method will be to record (preferably with video and audio) your complete writing process as you complete a writing assignment for a class. Your purpose is to try to learn some things about your actual writing practices that you might not be aware of and to reflect on what you learn using the terms and concepts you’ve read about in this class.

Auto-Ethnography Name Institution Auto-Ethnography Writing has never been one of my strongest suits. However, as with anything in life, the more you do it the better you become. Therefore, with practice, I have been able to develop and grow as a writer who not only understands what is required of them but also has a writing plan. Well, developing a writing plan might seem like an easy thing to do but for me, it was one of the most difficult learning experiences I have ever had. First of all, I had to admit to myself that I was a bad writer and then I had to find a way to identify all the mistakes I often make and make sure I do my best to avoid them the next time I have a writing assignment. A writing process requires that one is honest with themselves as they try to develop one. You have to know your strengths and weaknesses before you can start developing a writing process. If you are a good writer but a bad researcher, then you need to grow as a researcher first before you can call yourself an exceptional writer. One can indeed have good command of language, have less grammatical mistakes and also write a well punctuated article. However, their content can be off topic and their research shallow and this will work to their disadvantage in the long-run. Therefore, for me, learning these things was key to developing a writing process and one I could count on to help me become a great writer in the future. Initially, I did have a writing process only that it was not informed and therefore, I found myself making similar mistakes all over again. For example, after we had been given an assignment in class, the first thing I would do was keep it away and retrieve it two to three days before the deadline runs out. This habit never worked out well for me and almost all the time, time run out before I had finished. The repercussions were always the same: getting a lower mark than I deserved or could have got. This went on for some time before I realized I am not that bad in writing and that it is my habits that hinder me from getting higher grades.
