1 Contrast the life philosophy of Maya Angelou and Macbeth. How are the speakers' views different?
In Macbeth’s line "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow", an unresistant and sad longing tone that may be due to the death of his wife as well as his loss of purpose. He also felt a grudge at opportunities that he lost through the words "petty," "fools," "frets" and "idiot”. It was also shown that time is compared to a path leading to "dusty death," and candles are used as ana analogy to our lives which is "brief". He then mentioned that just like shadows, we are actors on the stage of life. Macbeth has become so indifferent, feeling so empty due to his own unethical actions that he felt so numb during the death of his wife. In Maya Angelou’s piece, the theme revolves around the courage and the speaker’s defiance facing oppression. This oppressor is described as full of “bitter, twisted lies” who showed “hatefulness” toward the speaker and further discouraging the speaker, desiring for her body and spirit to be “broken”. However, despite all the strategies that the oppressor is willing to do such as “shoot,” “cut,” or “kill”, the speaker remains bold, resisting the oppressor and continue to “rise” in triumph.
