Ethical communication in nursing: disclosure of vital information
Ethics is a multi-faceted ideology that cuts across several dimensions in the political, social, and economic perspectives of people in their everyday life. Every professor subscribes to a given code of ethical that govern operations. Nursing in the United States subscribe to such ethics of conduct. For instance, In the U.S, all healthcare facilities by law accept the duty to arbitrate in situations that threaten the well-being or rather the welfare of patients/residents. Any case of suspected domestic abuse or negligence involving women, children, and physically and mentally challenged residents/patients should be reported to the authorities (McGarry et al, 2014, P. 47). There are many forms of abuse recorded in healthcare organizations in the US.
Disclosure of abuse to the authorities and privacy of patient’s information are recent developments that present nurses solid ethical dilemma in their careers. Ethics demand that nurses report patient finding to family while the law discourages disclose of vital and confidential patient information obtained during assessments.
Patient confidentiality rest solemnly on the postulate of trust. When patients reveal information to the nurse, they trust that it will only be known to those professionals how need the information.
