Name Tutor Course Date Nature and Self-Sacrifice in To Kill A Mockingbird and The Lamp At Noon Insofar as influential literary texts are concerned, To Kill A Mockingbird and The Lamp At Noon undoubtedly stand out. The ability of these two texts to address a myriad of issues in the society is not only insightful but also exponential. However, it must be noted that while the thematic concerns of both texts may primarily vary, they also share similarities. Two of these similarities are with respect to the themes of nature and self-sacrifice. With regard to the theme of nature, both texts highlight how man destroys nature and is subsequently destroyed by the same nature. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus says, “…I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a Mockingbird.” (Lee 90). This statement underscores the wanton nature with which human beings destroyed the nature around them. Although the last part of the statement is largely metaphorical, it shows that destroying nature has serious consequences.
