African women have been always victimized to below the line criticism and unfairness by white society. Sarah Baartman, Caster Semenya, Serena William and Michelle Obama, having immense success in their life still remained inferior in this world of extreme racism (Ashley, 2014). In this writing composition, the similarities and differences in the manner in which they all have been described in public space are discussed in detail.
Similarities
These all four women have been treated with a manner which is quite similar to each other. Being victims of racism, body shaming and abusive language, they faced inhumane behaviors from so-called humans.
Racism
Sarah Baartman, Caster Semenya, Serena William and Michelle Obama passed the intense existence of racial discriminations (Ashley, 2014). Sarah Baartman was a woman who seemed quite influential within her community. Europeans destroyed her personality and snatched away from her representation of the Khoi Khoi nomadic tribe. They continued to make her victim of social and scientific stereotypes in order to immensely torture her until she died at a tender age. They made her an insignificant creature like an insect or some sort of strange circus who is just made to gawk, stared and laughed at (Sarah Baartman Documentary, 2013). All three other woman, being quite influential in their fields, have been firstly criticized over cultural inferiority of black race and it has been headed to make them substandard in humans due to their look and body shapes.
Body Shaming
In 1815, the desperate researchers of France including George Cuvier inspected Sarah Baartman's living body at the place of Paris. All this researching team, especially Cuvier was too obsessed with the size and shape of Baartman's buttocks genitalia (Sarah Baartman Documentary, 2013). Negatively called as the "Hottentot Venus", Baartman has not been stopped to be a victim of degradation even after her death in 1819. Subsequent to dissecting her body, Baartman's extracted privates and brain were displayed in Paris after being protected by formaldehyde, alongside her skeleton, till 1974. Her remaining parts were expelled from general visibility then and put away in a dusty bureau where they were kept till 2002 (Sarah Baartman Documentary, 2013). Following a long dissent including a request from Nelson Mandela, France gave away Baartman's body parts to South Africa, where an appropriate entombment was given to her in the same year.
Quick forward almost 200 years, another youthful South African lady, runner Caster Semenya and her genitals have also turned into the objective of Western researchers' pushing and jabbing (Ray, 2009). In Berlin, the 18-year-old was planned to participate in the 800m long race of the World Athletics Championships in 2009, hours before to this run, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) affirmed press reports that Semenya had to experience gender confirmation testing at that time (Ray, 2009).
