Cyber bullying
People have been victims of cyberbullying, either intentionally or unintentionally. While some people may intend to intimidate others with their communications on social media, other individuals fall victim to what they never intended to do. However, it would even be pointless explaining the initial intentions as long the information is against the media regulations. Thus, the action is eventually termed as a crime. For instance, a young lady made a joke on twitter about white people not getting AIDS before boarding her plane to South Africa. The post may or may not have been directed towards a certain group of people to imply racism, but twitter did not bother getting information from her, and she was trending worldwide and had already been fired from her job before landing. The array of regular crimes on cyberspace judged the action as cyberbullying, which was followed by justice consequences on the offender.
Cyber shaming
The public shaming that could literally happen to people in society a hundred years ago has come back, but virtually through the use of social media. People are using media channels such as Facebook and Instagram to humiliate other individuals or groups of people. Although the action is a crime since it humiliates and probably tarnishes the images of the shamed individuals publicly, the people in practice do it without the fear of recrimination. Also, the victims have little or nothing to do about it. The diversity in cyberspace has contributed to the crimes as people can access and have several accounts on different platforms without limit. However, some activists such as Monica Lewinsky call for actions such as ‘patient zero’ to cyber shaming, meaning that nobody should tolerate the humiliation despite its prevalence in the media development and dominance era.
2. Neutrality should remain to be the governing principle behind the Internet. Besides, what might be wrong for a certain group of people is the best for the population using it on media. Also, while certain information could be judged as wrong and probably detrimental, it may be significant to a certain population. Thus, neutrality should remain the principal governing code behind the Internet based on various arguments. First, the consideration of cognitive decision making about the credibility of online information raises some questions that may be needed for future research.
