The key concept used in the principle of liking is that there are adversely higher chances of being convinced by people we like or show more preference over to people we dislike or have no preference over. Concerning motivational interviewing (MI), the principle of liking plays a vital role to help the client grow a form of liking for the counsellor, in this case, the interviewer, which will lead to better cooperation by the client.
