Introduction
In order to restore sanity in the society of today, guidance and counseling has to play a foremost role in order to guide people on how to lead their lives. Guidance and counseling is diverse; thus different individuals may make use of the different methods in order to make it more effective among us. Moreover, concepts like interpretation, challenge and immediacy are the major pillars in this field of counseling. Henceforth, it is through the integration of this three vital aspects that one can come up with an effective guidance and counseling. In this paper I am going to discuss more on these three concepts and also highlight on the advantages and disadvantages that are associated with them.
The concept of interpretation
Interpretation can be referred to as a way in which one can perceive certain information in guidance and counseling. Through interpretation, the helper is able to understand well on what the victim is undergoing. Additionally, it is through interpretation that counselors get to comprehend on the sign language that is frequently used in any kind of communication between him and the victim. There are a number of advantages and disadvantages that are associated with interpretation as I have explained as follows.
One of the main advantages of interpretation is that the helper is able to perceive the kind of information that maybe communicated from the victim. Hence, through this the helper is able to counsel the victim in the best way according to the information provided. (Rayudu, 2010). Thus the sole advantage of interpretation is to bring in understanding between two parties in a conversation. On the other hand, interpretation has also its demerits. Through interpretation, the interpreter may pass the wrong information to a party hence this may mislead the counseling hence there might be misunderstanding between the parties. This might lead to negative outcome in any counseling that may be taking place due to the wrong interpretation by the helper.
The concept of challenge
The concept of challenge is a common concept among people. Especially, in guidance and counseling, the helper may face a number of challenges when counseling the victims. Sometimes it may be challenging especially when they may need to establish the problem of the victim in order to give the best advice to him or her. Therefore, in guidance and counseling, challenges are always experienced by the helpers as they relate with the victims. This is because some of the victims may shy away from disclosing some of the important information to the helper hence the results may not be positive as expected.
One of the advantages of challenge in guidance and counseling is that, the helper is able to equip himself with techniques to deal with different victims after managing to overcome the many endeavors in his line of work. Thus it will be always easier for them to tackle different cases from their victims through the experience that they have gained (Marr & Diaz, 2010).
