In the DVD Way We Live, Episode 5, groups consist of people sharing similar interests, experiences and loyalties, with secondary groups geared to achieve goals being considered organizations. Taylor proposed scientific principles applicable to management of workers with the methods meant to improve productivity in formal organizations. Therefore, it highlights on tayloristic scientific management and provides three steps involved in scientific management, starting with task identification and time required for the tasks, data analysis on improving efficiency and provision of incentives to improve efficiency.
Furthermore, the principles state that the decision -making process should rest with the top management. Formal organizations increasingly have challenges on job competition, diversity issues and an ever changing workplace (Macionis, 2011 p.120), and the principles have become prevalent in American industrial production leading to McDonaldization of the American society (Kammen & Crouch, 2005).
