John Corigliano’s Concerto for Clarinet Orchestra Analysis
We will watch a video in class, "Composing is a Battle for Me" featuring composer John Corigliano. We will follow that with hearing most or all of his Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra.
You will write a short one page essay regarding at least 3 points he made regarding the life of a classical composer. In addition, find at least 3 instances of techniques that we studied in class(non-tertial structures; aleatoric music; chromatic chord progressions; polytonality; free chromaticism; pan-diatonicism) within his composition as well as conjecture which composer or particular composition techniques might have influenced his writing and why. You MUST indicate where in the video score you are citing your examples.

Upon listening to John Corigliano’s "Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra," I found several instances of the theories that we have discussed in class.
