The writer narrates how flunking his two brothers were such that his father would prefer his company anytime he was paid to drive a package up to Niagara Falls. The writer adds that it was him (the writer) that his father would take out of school in case he was to drive a package to the Niagara Falls. The writer vividly describes their journey to the falls. The journey was a four hours travel with little talks (Justin, 98). The writer further describe the kind of room they stayed in before the morning came. It was a dust motel room.
In the morning, Paps took the narrator to the falls, at the rustling and noisy edge. Paps held him suspending him above the gushing cords of water. At this point, Paps revealed to the writer that if he let him go, then he would die. In this instance, theme of discovery is clearly exhibited because the writer discover that his death would occur if Paps would let her go. Interestingly, after making such discovery, the writer's mind begins to explore the possibility of death and wishes he could die.
