Trifles
Susan Glaspell in her play is concentrated around the murder case trial against a farmer’s wife. However, the wife and the farmer are nowhere in the play. It involves the County Attorney, The Sheriff, Mr. And Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters.
The play tries to show the role of women in the society which is destined at the kitchen. They are not even allowed to go to the market as Mr. Hale says, “Harry and I had started to town with a load of potatoes………” I addition, there is prove of gender conflict as women sees men as hypocrites. This is paraphrased by Mrs. Hale when she says that the towels get dirty quickly as the men’s hands aren’t always as clean as they might be (Graspell,pp 634).
Men are portrayed to be very selfish, hostile and even more critical. On the other hand women have been portrayed as cautious and sensitive. Men are busy...
