Saint James the Greater
Brief outline of the Saint’s life 
St James the Greater was the brother of John the Evangelist/ beloved disciple and both were sons of Zebedee and Salome. Jesus called the two brothers while working on their father’s boat on the Sea of Galilee (American Catholic). The saint witnessed Jairus daughter come back to life, the Transfiguration and agony of Gethsemane. Jesus chose James as one of the people to spread the Gospel, and his journey to Spain achieved this. However, James is thought to have the first saint to have been martyred by King Herod, as he sent men with swords to capture and kill the saint. Similar to other saint’s lives, it is the way one chooses to live that should matter and reinforce their beliefs.
Interesting aspects about the saint 
St. James had a profound impact on the man who arrested him, to the extent that he became a martyr together with the saint. Before this, there were other interesting aspects of James the son of Zebedee including his to pilgrimage in Spain in order to spread the Gospel, when many followers did not travel to foreign land at the time. He is one of the most enthusiastic among the 12 apostles, and with his brother their ambition might have brought them into conflict with other apostles. Essentially, as the patron of Pilgrims and Laborers, the saint is highly esteemed within the Catholic community. Additionally, the saint is revered in Spain where he established Christianity, and the scallop- shell used during pilgrimage is associated with the saint.
