Many people have regarded a leadership portfolio in different instances, depicting its diverse relevance in various situations. It is defined as an abstract of an individual’s strategic qualities and experiences, strengths and weakness that he or she ought to focus on for improvement. While others view it as a personal initiative, scholarly articles and research studies have unraveled the imminence and domineering importance of leadership portfolios in organizational set ups. It is therefore near fallacy to overlook the significance that management and leadership portfolios have in escalating managerial capabilities so as to achieve objectives in competitive environments. This study paper will examine significance of focusing on leadership portfolios by human resource managers.
Leadership portfolios
According to a research study by Hill, Jones & Schilling (2014) the first aspect that human resource managers need to focus on in their leadership portfolios is stating their personal objective statements in the organization. Hill specifically argues that a good human resource manager needs to be visionary and have specific personal objectives for the organization.
This analogy was echoed in another study by DuBrin (2014) who opined that ‘a leader without visionary objectives is a leader without reason’ Hill gives the example of setting minimum standards for hiring a personnel in the organization; for instance, ensuring that all personnel in the organization posses technological skills and know how. It is henceforth, imperative for human resource managers to blatantly spell out their personal objectives (Hill et al., 2014).
