Research Paper Instructions:

Introduction: Include an introduction paragraph and a thesis statement at the end of the introductory paragraph. Your thesis statement should be no longer than 1 sentence summarizing the purpose of the paper. 1/ 1 point
Qualitative Literature: Describe the term qualitative research and how it can be applied to the Advanced Practice Nurse's practice. Be sure to cite your references. DATA COLLECTION: Describe how and what qualitative data you would collect related to your POI. Example: interview parents (how) of newborns to determine their feelings (data) on adapting to having their infant in the Neonatal ICU (data) 2/2 points.
Complete the Appraisal Tools and MERGE to Paper: This section (rubric #3) does not need to include any discussion in the paper. A deduction of 5% will be taken if the wrong tool is selected.
Find 2 different types of qualitative articles/studies related to your POI (at least one-and ONLY one- of your studies should be one of the following (Qualitative) meta-ethnography, meta-study, meta-summary, critical interpretive synthesis, thematic synthesis, systematic review, or meta-synthesis. A single qualitative study may include the following designs: phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography, case study, narrative analysis or other. Critically appraise the 2 selected articles by selecting and using the appropriate appraisal tool from the list previously provided. Merge or attach (separately) the completed appraisal with your paper. You must complete the tool by addressing each question or comment. Be sure to include the title of the study article on the top of the tool. Include comments for any “no”, “don’t know” or “n/a” answers. 4 /4 points The articles should be submitted along with your paper (merged with the paper OR as a separate 2nd attachment along with the articles you selected).
Article Discussion: Using the information from your appraisal tools, discuss the following: (a) brief overview of study’s purpose and findings, (b) design and methods and then (c) apply the following concepts as they apply to each study. Concepts are referred to differently depending on text book used and either term can be applied in your discussion: 1. confirmability/neutrality, 2. transferability/applicability, 3. dependability and 4. credibility/truth value Use these terms and other topics specifically discussed in the course textbooks to address each concept. Be sure to review Murphy, et al. Chapter 9; Hall/Roussel p. 38-39; Chap 8 & 25 (Polit) and the Steps to Complete your Qualitative paper for additional information. 10/ 10 points
Application of Articles: Based on each appraisal of both studies, discuss the level of evidence and grade of recommendation you would apply to each study. Be sure to cite the tools used to determine both levels of evidence and grades of recommendation. How will you use the information from each study in your work as an APN? What value does qualitative data/literature have in practice? (Additional resources should be used here-textbooks would be at least 1 option expected). 3/3 points
Conclusion: Provide a summary of the main points of the paper in 1 concluding paragraph. Remember that your conclusion paragraph should not contain any new information that was not presented elsewhere in the paper. 1 / 1 point
Matrix/Appendix: Attach a thoroughly completed evidence matrix as an appendix. The matrix should be a continuation of your first matrix submitted for your quantitative paper, but you should make any necessary changes necessary to avoid loss of points. ALL studies used in the appraisals AND as a reference should be included in the matrix. Be sure to appropriately refer your reader to the appendix in the narrative 4/4 points

Articles/Appraisal tools:
You will need to submit your appraisal tools (2) and the selected articles (2) used for the appraisal as a separate attachment to the assignment area. Failure to submit the completed appraisal tools or articles as to the assignment area will result in a 5% deduction per article or tool. Deductions of 5% per tool will be applied for incorrect appraisal tool selection. You may also merge these documents to the paper as well.

Scholarly References: Students are expected to include scholarly references with this paper. While you can use your textbooks, you should limit the use of textbooks to no more than 2 resources, all others should be peer reviewed. A minimum of 2 additional peer-reviewed references should be included, excluding text books, tools, and the articles used in the appraisals.
The 2 qualitative studies/articles used may be older than 5 years because some of the specific types of articles you are asked to find can be difficult to locate. However, the other references used to support your paper that were not previously used in the selected 2 qualitative articles, will need to be within 5 years. Using references that are older than 5 years (with the exception of your 2 articles used in appraisal) may result in an overall scholarship deduction.

Qualitative researchers evaluate and interpret information obtained from various sources to interpret and understand the meaning of phenomena. Among people with schizophrenia identifying the risk factors is important to improve outcomes and factors that improve the quality of life. In qualitative nursing research, there is a need to examine and interpret data depending on what has been discovered. The problem of effective treatment and management of schizophrenia was identified, and is a starting point when planning the study. The qualitative appraisal on schizophrenia evaluates research on schizophrenia management. Qualitative Literature
Qualitative research focuses on understanding a phenomenon and is based on realism, and the approach is most common in social sciences (Hall & Roussel, 2016). Qualitative research is subjective and inductive. Qualitative research designs are in the form of phenomenology, ethnography, grounded theory and case study (Hall & Roussel, 2016). The safety of interventions for people with schizophrenia, focusing on alleviating distress and providing support are top priorities to improve the quality of life in patients with schizophrenia (Lloyd, et al., 2017). Identifying the factors that influence recovery for people with schizophrenia is necessary to improve patient outcomes and increase independence (Soundy et al., 2018).
DATA COLLECTION:
Interviewing family and caregivers helps to understand the experience of people with schizophrenia and determine how experiences differ in certain social settings. I would also collect data and information from databases focusing on the titles, abstracts and full texts on schizophrenia. Interviews and focus groups focusing on the carers would provide insights on their perspectives on the effectiveness of different treatment approaches.
