3. Compare how the information presented to the general public in the mainstream courses differs from your peer reviewed sources.
4. Discuss why you chose this topic and why you feel it is important. Also, discuss why it is important to think critically about scientific information as it is presented to us in the media.

Introduction
Mental health disorders are an intriguing area of study within the discipline of psychology that I would like to investigate further, with a special emphasis on anxiety disorders. I wanted a well-rounded understanding of this topic, so I sought information from mainstream sources and scholarly journals that experts had evaluated. To begin, over the course of my in-depth research on various news websites and social media channels, I came across an article that discussed the growing frequency of depression and anxiety disorders among young adults as a result of a variety of societal causes. So, the article was selected to be compared to the peer-reviewed scholarly article in a well-known journal explaining anxiety disorders in children and young adults.
The article published in Forbes magazine titled ‘Depression And Anxiety Double In Youth Compared To Pre-Pandemic’ briefly discussed the background of the topic and continued by quoting some experts and research studies stating the contributing factors of anxiety (Haseltine, 2021). The mainstream sources usually do not provide the source of information and quote the professionals in the field without any reference, which questions the authenticity of the information in most cases if the reference source is not reliable. A particularly concerning discovery emphasized in the article was that mental health challenges became increasingly widespread following the persistence of the pandemic.
