Application of Non-Parametric Test and Chi-Square Test

Statistics Project Instructions:

Problem 1 (8 points):A beverage company has been trying to develop a new formula for their most popular beverage line. They believe they might have cracked it; however, they decide to a small pilot test before spending the resources on a large market research experiment.  The company recruits 30 participants. A randomly selected 15 are given the new formula beverage and the other half are given current formula found in stores (New Drink: 0 =no, 1 = yes). After the participants tried their beverage, they scored their satisfaction with the drink on a 7-point Likert scale (Satisfaction: 1 = not at all satisfied, 7 = completely satisfied).
Your task is to determine if you should conduct a parametric or nonparametric test on these data. Feel free to use whatever statistical tools you would like to try to determine this (for example: histograms, sharpie-wilk tests, etc.). Please defend your decision with at least two pieces of evidence. Once you have decided, conduct the chosen inferential test and determine if this new formula is promising and worthy of further market research. (The dataset is ‘Beverage.xlsx in Canvas, HW 3 folder).
Problem 2 (7 points):
You have been provided with a dataset, ‘SeatBelt.xlsx’(in Canvas, HW  4 folder),  to explore the relationship whether wearing a seat belt (BeltOn: 0=no 1=yes) saves lives or not (Fatal: 0=survived 1=died).  Using R, read in the dataset and fill out the contingency table below with observed frequencies and expected frequencies in parenthesis.
Fatal Seat Belt Survived Died TotalNo Yes Total
Conduct a chi-square test to test whether wearing a seat belt saves lives or not (Be sure to include all the relevant steps of hypothesis testing: state your null and alternative hypotheses, chosen alpha-level, chi-square statistic, p-value, decision rule and final decision with interpretation).

Statistical Tests
Problem 1
The most ideal statistical test that should be used to determine whether the company should conduct a large market research experiment for the new beverage formula is a non-parametric test. A parametric test requires that the data should be normally distributed (Kaur & Kumar, 2015). To assess for normality of the data in the two groups, a Shapiro-Wilk test was conducted. The Shapiro-Wilk test results show that the p-value for the new formula group is between 0.1 and 0.5. The p-value is greater than 0.05 suggesting that the distribution of the data from the new group is normal. The Shapiro-Wilk test results show that the p-value for the old formula group is between 0.02 and 0.05. The p-value is lower than 0.05 suggesting that the distribution of satisfaction with the old formula is not normal. In addition, an examination of the histogram from the two groups indicates that the data does not follow a normal distribution.
The applicable non-parametric test for the study is the Mann-Whitney U test (Sedgwik, 2015). Based on the analysis, u statistic for the group satisfaction with the new drink (227.5) was higher than that of the current drink (197). This means that the satisfaction with the new drink was higher than the satisfaction with the current drink. The p-value from the test is <0.001, suggesting that the difference between the two groups was statistically significant. Consequently, the company should conduct market research for the new drink as it is promising. The level of satisfaction with the current drink is significantly higher than satisfaction with the current drink.
Problem 2
A chi-square test can be used to determine whether wearing a seat belt can be used to save lives. The test will be conducted in steps.
