Hello everyone,
Ban Ki-Moon, the eighth secretary-general to the United Nations, once said, “We are using resources as if we had two planets, not one. There can be no ‘plan B’ because there is no ‘planet B.’” This statement summarizes the problem we have with sustainability and emphasizes why every living soul must undertake to be part of driving sustainability. Interior designers have the responsibility to adopt sustainable practices and help clients become part of sustainability initiatives.
Sustainability is no longer a buzzword but a reality and goal everyone must pursue. Our planet faces a significant problem with depleting resources and environmental degradation from extractive practices. However, the most urgent issue is climate change, which threatens to destroy life on earth. Sustainable practices across all industries are the first step towards halting and possibly reversing the trend in climate change. Consumers are not merely onlookers in this regard. What they consume determines what industries produce and how they produce. Consumers can pressure industries to adopt more sustainable practices by consuming what firms produce sustainably. The same goes for home ownership, where homeowners insist on sustainable designs.
