I have always had a strong passion for computers and technology. I went to college to pursue a degree in computer engineering, and during my studies, I decided to focus on the backend side of software engineering. This was a great decision, as it was the perfect foundation for me to start my career in the software engineering field. I have been a backend software engineer for the past few years and have gained valuable experience building, deploying, and maintaining backend systems. After months of consideration, I decided to leave my current job as a backend software engineer and pursue my dream of entering the blockchain space. It was a difficult decision, especially in the current economic climate. However, I was determined to make a difference and take this opportunity. Consequently, I am applying to the Master of Engineering program at the UBC ECE Department.
There are several compelling reasons for my choice of the UBC ECE department. Firstly, UBC has the best blockchain research center in Canada, Blockchain@UBC. I have scoured their website and noted that most of their faculty and researchers are from the ECE department. They have extensively researched Decentralized Finance, Smart Contracts, Consensus Protocols, etc. In addition, they offer a graduate blockchain training path with 12-credit courses, most of which are from the ECE department. Courses such as Foundation of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger (EECE 571C) and Blockchain Software Engineering (EECE 571G) are two that I am particularly interested in, and I have already read the topics in their syllabus.
