Throughout my nursing career, I have always taken advantage of opportunities to hone my skills and advance my knowledge to become a distinguished professional. Pursuing a master’s in nursing has always been one of my primary ambitions that I have postponed for several years now. However, after thorough introspection to determine the best specialty area I want to focus on and researching the institution where I can achieve my educational goals, Georgetown University distinguished itself as the ideal institution. As a result, I write to express my interest in the nurse-midwife/women’s health nurse practitioner (NM/WHNP) program offered in this academic facility.
After completing a bachelor’s in nursing and a postgraduate in midwifery with the Nigeria Nursing and midwifery board, I sought experience in diverse work settings. This past exposure has equipped me with many experiences that make me a perfect fit for NM/WHNP. For instance, between 2004 and 2010, I worked as a registered midwife in Polyclinic Bonajo, where I provided various services, including assisting with minor surgeries, educating pregnant women, medication discharge, and administration. I have also worked in other capacities in different facilities, such as Human Touch Home Health Care as a home health aide from 2015 to 2019, St. Elizabeth Hospital Washington DC, and Psychiatric Institute of Washington as an RN floor nurse since 2020. Besides my hands-on work experience, I satisfy the basic application requirements for this program, including the minimum GPA, a U.S. RN license, and a bachelor of science in Nursing. Thus, my qualifications and experience will enable me to progress successfully in this program.
