Pender’s Health Promotion Model
This model aids individuals in changing their unhealthy behaviors to improve health. This follows the principles of the social cognitive theory, which associates cognitive-perceptual factors to the individual’s actions. The individual’s perception is influenced by self-efficacy and perceived advantages and disadvantages (Khodaveisi et al., 2017). This model shall change the unhealthy behaviors of the patients by focusing on the following areas: behavior-specific cognitions and effects, individual characteristics and experiences, and behavioral outcomes. The framework allows the health practitioners to encourage patient involvement with the environment to reconfigure their own behavior. Furthermore, the model encourages the patient to have a positive outlook in practicing a specific behavior (Nursing Theory, 2020).
