In the case involving Anna, an intern at a crisis center for abused children in the department of human services, various ethical and values issues emerge. For instance, it is the ethical responsibility of human services professionals to build a sound understanding and relationship with their colleagues and the profession. Interns also need to demonstrate strong professional responsibility to their employers and themselves. There are differences in opinions about the conduct of different staff such as Jeff, the community education coordinator, Julie, the shelter coordinator, and Anna, the intern, which eventually results in Anna feeling misunderstood, upset, and a victim of the whole misconstruction (Kiser, 2016). This situation leads to abuse of values such as respect, trustworthiness, human dignity, and empathy. As Julie overhears the ridicule and criticism of Anna and Jeff against her, it is impossible to build trust and threatens to report to Tyrone.
What might have happened differently
As an intern at the center, Anna should have remained quiet for some time and try to understand the values of her workmates and coordinators.
